Pregled

Sound Level Meter is a web-based audio measurement tool that uses your device's microphone to display real-time decibel readings directly in the browser. It aims to make sound monitoring accessible without requiring specialized hardware or app installations. The tool is useful for casual environmental checks, classroom demonstrations, home studio setups, and getting a general sense of noise levels in a room or workspace. Readings are shown instantly, with typical metrics like current, average, peak, and minimum levels updated as you measure. Because it runs on consumer microphones rather than calibrated equipment, it is best suited for informational and educational use rather than regulatory or occupational compliance reporting.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: works on desktop and mobile browsers and runs in the browser with no installation. On balance the feature set — especially min, max, average, and peak tracking — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is works on desktop and mobile browsers — handled better than most — and real-time decibel readings. Accuracy depends on device microphone quality is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Works on desktop and mobile browsers is exactly what I needed, and free and easy to access. I do wish not calibrated for legal or compliance use, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.
