Panoramica

CodeGPT is an AI-powered coding assistant that integrates directly into popular development environments like VS Code and JetBrains IDEs. It helps developers write, complete, refactor, and document code through natural language prompts and contextual suggestions. Beyond standard autocomplete, CodeGPT lets teams configure custom AI agents tied to their own codebases, documentation, or preferred language models. This makes it useful for tasks ranging from generating boilerplate and unit tests to explaining unfamiliar code or onboarding new engineers to a project. It supports multiple AI providers and offers both individual and team plans, with options for self-hosted deployments aimed at organizations with stricter privacy or compliance needs.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and works inside common IDEs without disrupting workflow. Code explanation and documentation generation fits neatly into how we already work, and custom AI agents trained on your context removed a step we used to do by hand. Custom agent setup has a learning curve, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is custom AI agents trained on your context — handled better than most — and customizable agents tuned to your own codebase. Worth the time if this is your use case.
