Operator is an AI agent from OpenAI that can independently navigate websites and carry out multi-step tasks inside its own cloud browser. Instead of just answering questions, it clicks, types, scrolls, and fills out forms on your behalf, handling things like booking reservations, ordering groceries, filling out applications, or gathering information across multiple sites. It is designed to act agentically, meaning users describe a goal in natural language and Operator plans and executes the steps needed to reach it. The agent will pause to ask for confirmation on sensitive actions such as logins, payments, or submissions, keeping the user in the loop while still automating the bulk of the work. Operator is aimed at saving time on repetitive browser-based chores and exploring how general-purpose AI agents can interact with the open web much like a human user.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. Cloud-hosted browser agent just works and works on any website via a browser. Some sites block automated agents can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: screenshot-based reasoning over web pages and works on any website via a browser. Where it lags: limited to higher-tier OpenAI subscribers. On balance the feature set — especially screenshot-based reasoning over web pages — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Cloud-hosted browser agent is exactly what I needed, and pauses for user input on sensitive steps. I do wish limited to higher-tier OpenAI subscribers, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.
